Good and bad fabrics for babies

Unbeknownst to a lot of parents is that some fabrics, no matter how new or clean, can actually be hazardous for babies. Since this site is an advocate to DIY crafts for the little ones, it will be a good idea to inform parents which fabrics are relatively safe and which ones can be harmful to use in making personalized items for babies.

Looking Forward

This is how I've felt the last couple months! Yikes...it's been for ever since I've blogged. Between moving, working on new wholesale accounts and being busy with my Etsy shop, the blog has fallen to the bottom and gotten ignored. I have lots of new ideas for this coming year and hope to share some tutorials with you in the coming months. Stay tuned!

New Summer Canvas Tote Bags

Happy Friday! Lots has been going on the past couple weeks that I'm excited to tell you about! First up is a name change to my Etsy shop. My shop is now called Sarah West Design. It's way easier for friends, family and everyone else to remember. So, I've been busy changing and updating the "look". Feel free to swing over and check it out and let me know what you think! Between re-branding and reading a few books and blogs on marketing, I feel like I'm bursting with so many new ideas of things I want to make. There just isn't enough time to get it all done during a 2 year old's nap time! I have had time to make and list several new baby burp cloths and baby bibs.

Baby Bib with Snaps Tutorial

It seems like it is the season for baby showers! I had a couple baby showers to go to a few weeks ago, have another one here in a couple more weeks and have a couple friends that just found out they have babies on the way. This baby bib tutorial is an easy gift to sew for baby shower gifts or your own little one. These bibs are super absorbant because they are backed with terry cloth. The snap closure also helps them stay put on your baby when they learn how to rip the velcro bibs off!

Terry Cloth Burp Cloths - DIY Tutorial

These terry cloth burp cloths were my favorite when my daughter was little. They are super absorbent and really cute! They soak up messes really well and wash great. You can match the fabric to your diaper bag, nursery colors or pick out cute blue or pink designs. Or, make these for a gift to take to a baby shower. Your momma friend will love them! I made my example from Robert Kaufman's Urban Zoologie Birds fabric. Follow along to find out how to make these burp cloths or visit my Etsy shop to buy them already made! Read more »

Cute New Pleated Wristlet

Look at this cute pleated wristlet I made this weekend! I'm so excited about it! I used Amy Butler Lotus Morning Glory fabric for the outside and the lining is Amy Butler Polka Dots in matching blue and gray. I made this wristlet using a Keyka Lou pattern. I really love her patterns. The have great directions that are simple and easy to follow. Not all of them are for beginners though so it helps if you have sewn a few things before attempting them. I didn't time how long it took me to make it but it wasn't more than a couple hours. Definitely do-able during a couple naptimes! Read more »
